As far as the history of the holiday goes, it began when Saint Patrick himself moved to Ireland at the age of sixteen. Patrick began teaching religion and eventually had great influence over the country’s residents. To commemorate his contributions to Ireland, the locals decided to celebrate on March 17th, supposedly the date Patrick passed away.

Green is an iconic colour, often associated with St. Patrick’s day, but have you ever wondered why that is? The colour green was first introduced to the festivities in the 18th century when the shamrock became known as a national symbol of Ireland. Although the shamrock is a popular symbol of Irish culture, the harp is the official  national symbol. People believe that wearing green will bring them good luck and honour their Irish ancestry. Due to the popularity of the shamrock and Ireland’s landscape, green became a prominent colour for this holiday.

Leprechauns are a popular figure in Irish folklore due to their mischievous nature and knowledge of where you can find treasure. If you don't know, Leprechauns are small, fictional fairy-like creatures found in Ireland. These characters in Irish myth are often associated with St. Patrick’s day due to their connection to luck. Have you ever heard about the hidden pot of gold found at the end of a rainbow? Legend says that if you can catch a leprechaun, it will share with you where to find that treasure.
